Michigan Adds 1,000 Cases; Recoveries Approach 500,000

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Saturday announced 1,018 new coronavirus cases and 15 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 82 more deaths to the state total.

Michigan now has a total of 567,648 cases and 14,894 deaths since the crisis began last March.

No reports are issued on Sundays.

The state also is reporting that more than 17,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 498,493 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.

The state also has 53,037 “probable cases” and 960 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 13 new cases on Saturday. Dickinson County had five of them, and Chippewa County had three new positive tests.

Delta County reported two new deaths, bringing the total to 65.

The U.P. now has 16,056 confirmed positive test results, and 374 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,914 probable cases and 89 probable deaths.
