Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore’s education team is excited to announce a FREE virtual program for middle and high school students. Students who participate will learn about invasive species in the Great Lakes region and will focus on the life and management of sea lamprey in the Great Lakes. This program will be hosted by the National Park Service, with special guests from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service out of Marquette, Michigan.
Teachers and students are encouraged to sign up for the program, which will be hosted on the Microsoft Teams platform (web based/no download needed). The live program events will be hosted on Friday, March 12th at 1 pm EST and Thursday, March 18th at 10 am EST. The event will be recorded for teachers and students who are unable to attend on these dates. The live event is expected to last about 45 minutes, with time for students to ask rangers questions.
There is a limited amount of space for the live events, so teachers are encouraged to sign up using the link below or email piro_education@nps.gov or visit www.facebook.com/PicturedRocksNL. Please register no later than March 10th for the live events.
Classrooms will also be provided with an optional pre-site activity that will help familiarize students with invasive species terminology. Teachers will also receive additional invasive species curriculum that encourages fun, kinesthetic learning.
