The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday announced 915 new coronavirus cases and 12 new deaths.
Michigan now has a total of 570,895 cases and 14,977 deaths since the crisis began last March.
The state also has 54,075 “probable cases” and 962 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 33 new cases, with most of them in the western U.P.: eleven in Gogebic County and seven in Houghton County. No new deaths were reported in the U.P. on Wednesday, although a probable death was added in Houghton County.
The U.P. now has 16,119 confirmed positive test results, and 374 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.
The U.P. has had a total of 3,933 probable cases and 90 probable deaths.
Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
The state also is reporting that more than 17,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 498,493 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
