The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday reported 5,031 new coronavirus positive tests and 29 new deaths.
Michigan now has a total of 814,622 positive tests since the crisis began in March of 2020, and 17, 168 deaths.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were 48 new cases reported. Eleven of them were in Delta County. There were eight positive tests reported in both Dickinson and Luce Counties. There were no new deaths in the U.P.
The U.P. now has 18,735 confirmed positive test results, and 405 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, since the crisis began in March of 2020.
The U.P. has had a total of 5,132 probable cases and 98 probable deaths.
Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
The state also has 91,974 “probable cases” and 1,115 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The state also is reporting that 603,094 people have recovered from the virus. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Recoveries are up by more than 15,000 people in the past week.
