Marquette Township and Chocolay Township Firefighters hiked up Hogsback Mountain Sunday afternoon after being dispatched to help a 40 year old female who had fallen, hit her head and was unable to walk and is located near the top of Hogsback Mountain. They went up with ropes, medical equipment and a stokes basket. Roughly 1.5 hours after dispatch we reached the patient. After a medical assessment, bandaging and packaging were completed we transported her in the stokes basket down the mountain. One hour and 50 minutes later the patient was loaded in the ambulance and transported to UPHS Marquette.
“We could not have accomplished this as quickly and efficiently as we did without the help of Chip and Nick Davis who are experienced mountain bike riders who are very familiar with the mountain,” Chief Dan Shanahan said. “Hogsback Mountain is a difficult climb. We are recommending only experienced hikers attempt to reach the top, wear the proper shoes, dress accordingly, bring water and possibly a first aid kit.”
