It will be status quo in Gladstone after voters decided to re-elect three members of the city commission on Tuesday. Mayor Joe Thompson, and commissioners Robert Pontius and Greg Styczynski, all won their seats against six challengers in a crowded nine-person race that included former commissioners.
Thompson had the most votes with 537, and Styczynski was second with 405. Pontius held his seat with 355 votes.
The closest challenger to the three winners was former commissioner Mike O’Connor, who finished fourth with 246 votes. Another former commissioner, Steve Viau, finished with 225 votes.
Other challengers: Diane Godfrey (160 votes), Jason Leonard (158 votes), Brian Godfrey (142 votes).
Thompson easily won the advisory vote to continue on as Gladstone mayor. The commission will vote on that at its meeting next Monday, but that is merely a formality.
Meanwhile, the Gladstone Schools operating millage ballot question passed by a vote of 727-547. The Rapid River Schools operating millage proposal passed 254-110.
