Superior Alliance for Independent Living Marquette, Michigan – Julie Shaw, the former Associate Director of SAIL, has accepted the position of Executive Director as of January 13, 2022. Sarah Peurakoski, the former Executive Director, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2022.
“Sarah was my mentor,” said Julie Shaw, “Her kind and caring ways will never be forgotten, and I am committed to carrying out the mission of SAIL honoring Sarah and her vision.”
The SAIL staff have continued to be dedicated and hardworking throughout this difficult time and will continue serving consumers throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. SAIL is a non-profit organization that assists individuals with disabilities, helping them to gain and maintain independence in everyday living while encouraging them to become active members of their communities.
We are the only Center for Independent Living in the Upper Peninsula and one of only fifteen Centers for Independent Living in the State of Michigan. Serving our consumers by offering a variety of programs and services in addition to promoting accessibility for all in the communities of the Upper Peninsula.
Our main office is in Marquette, MI; however, we serve all fifteen counties of the U.P. With the assistance of competent, professional staff and the support of community partners, SAIL works for the “one in five” individuals living with a disability on local, state, regional and national levels.
