Upper Peninsula resident Trudy Olsson has been inducted into the National Ski Patrol Hall of Fame.
The National Ski Patrol, a 29,000-member organization that was founded in 1938, has inducted only 80 individuals into its Hall of Fame. Trudy joins Bob Meyers from Marquette Mountain as one of only 2 U.P. residents to be inducted into the NSP Hall of Fame. Trudy is an active National Ski Patroller at Michigan Tech University’s Mont Ripley Ski Hill, where she has helped lead the volunteer organization locally, regionally and nationally.
As a ski patroller, Trudy has earned multiple honors including being named National Outstanding Administrative Patroller in 1997 and was elected to the NSPS National Board in 2000. She has also received a National Distinguished Service Award and multiple Merit Star awards.
Trudy’s most notable accomplishment is her decades-long passion to keep Mont Ripley Ski Patrol at the cutting edge. She has been a key part of recruiting and training many new patrollers each year for service at Mont Ripley, many of which have gone on to patrol across the nation. For over 40 years, Trudy has been a key part of bringing hundreds of well-trained skiers into the patrol. Her charismatic sincerity and enthusiastic personality help her to achieve goals. She never gives up.
Trudy is also known for energizing the ski patrol with her signature Bavarian Alps yodel. As a distinguished elementary school teacher, she has a knack for making children and adults alike feel more comfortable during an injury assessment. But don’t let this 5’1” yodeling patroller and her pigtails fool you into thinking she is all fun and games. To this day, Trudy maintains exceptional physical fitness and leads the way in getting great things done for the ski patrol.
