Delta County Prosecutor Brett Gardner has resigned.
He made the announcement in a press release, and said that the resignation was effective as of 4:00 Monday. The press release was posted Monday night. He’s been the prosecutor since May of 2018, after Phil Strom resigned. Gardner did not give a reason for the sudden resignation.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Lauren Wickman will take over as prosecutor, but Circuit Court Judge John Economopoulos could also appoint someone to fill the position for the rest of the year. Either way, the position will likely appear on this November’s ballot for someone to fill the final two years of Gardner’s term.
