There is an uptick in new coronavirus cases across Michigan.
The state Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday reported 14,482 new coronavirus cases for the past week, which averages to 2,069 cases per day.
These are a combined “confirmed” and “probable” case count, as the state no longer shows which ones are confirmed with a lab test and which ones are just suspected.
This week’s case count is an increase over last week, when 10,474 new cases were reported, for an average of 1,496 cases per day.
State health officials reported 67 new confirmed or probable deaths this week, compared with 78 last week. MDHHS does not tell us how many of these deaths are new, and how many are found by comparing death certificates to previous positive test results.
Up until recently, the state reported how many were from vital records reviews.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, new deaths were reported in Keweenaw and Mackinac Counties, but, again, the report does not indicate when those people died.
The UP added 178 new confirmed cases over the past week, with 64 of them in Marquette County, 31 in Houghton County, and 26 in Dickinson County.
