Schoolcraft County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution of support (SB 1029) of suspending the States gas/diesel tax of 27.2 cents – URGES ALL OTHER 82 COUNTIES TO DO THE SAME.
Michiganders need relief now as record gas prices soar, and record setting inflation continues to force hard decisions on purchases and survival.
Keep in mind the State of Michigan is sitting on a $6 billion budget surplus, as Gov. Whitmer vetoed the last bill (last April) suspending the MI gas tax, by claiming the suspension would blow a hole in the state budget.
Senate Bill 1029 introduced by Roger VICTORY (R-Hudsonville) to pause the state tax of 27.2 cents per gallon on gasoline and diesel fuel.
The bill would utilize approximately $192.6 million from Michigan’s General Fund to reimburse project money lost by Road Commissions. It would also use around $107.4 million to compensate for lost revenue among cities and villages. It would also eliminate the sales tax and the use tax on motor fuel within the same timeline of June 15 to Sept 15 of this year.
