State Senator Ed McBroom (R-Waucedah Township) recently announced several events to kick off his senatorial re-election campaign.
The first will be held at Escanaba’s Herford and Hops this Saturday, June 18, beginning at 5:30 P.M. The second will take place at the Ramada Inn of Marquette on Friday, June 24, beginning at 4 P.M. There is no charge to attend; however, donations will be accepted.
“Between the Governor abrogating the power of the Legislature, the increase of regulations, the waste of the Unemployment agency, and the challenges facing families and small businesses, the past two years have been some of the most trying in our state history,” McBroom stated. “I’ve been pushing back on overreaching, nonsensical edicts the entire time, while also working with members of both parties to support our struggling businesses and communities,” he added.
McBroom, who heads the Senate Oversight and Natural Resources committees, said that some of his top accomplishments in his first term included co-sponsoring the first sweeping car insurance reform package in 40 years, repealing archaic laws misused by the governor, securing historic funding for U.P. infrastructure and parks, and holding various governmental entities accountable through in-depth investigations.
“I’d like to continue these efforts as Michigan recovers,” McBroom stated. “And in this next and final term, I plan to continue to hold various agencies, particularly the DNR, Secretary of State, and Unemployment, accountable. There is also a growing sentiment to return more local control to our high schools that I am anxious to harness for more flexibility for our students and teachers. Finally, the opportunities for the U.P. to grow in tourism and natural resource industries must receive equal attention from the administration officials who too often dismiss our future.”
A fourth-generation dairy farmer, McBroom operates a farm with his wife, children, and late brother’s family, which in addition to raising Holsteins, also grows corn, wheat, and hay. He and his wife, Sarah, have five children: Helen, Eddie, Edee, Etta, and Kenny Jack. Learn more about his candidacy and watch for future events at mcbroomforsenate.com.
