The NMU Volleyball team will face the Central Michigan University (CMU) Chippewas in a historic exhibition match on Mackinac Island Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022.
Game time is set for noon and will be held at the Mackinac Island Public Schools Gymnasium.
2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of Title IX and the game on Mackinac Island provides an opportunity to highlight women’s intercollegiate volleyball.
The match will be broadcast live on FM-100.3 in Marquette, FM-93.5/AM-600 in Escanaba, and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
KEY RETURNERS
Jacqueline Smith is back playing for the Wildcats. Smith finished third in the GLIAC and led the team in both kills per set (3.77) and total kills (381). She also lead in Total attacks with 1155 and was fourth in hitting percentage with .182% last season.
All-GLIAC earners Lizzy Stark and Meghan Meyer are also back on the NMU roster. Stark and Meyer were second and third on the Wildcats in kills with 298 and 218, kills per set with 3.20 and 2.16, and total attacks with 844 and 508. Meyer led the team in hitting percentage with .281%, and Stark was second in digs with 251.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Wildcats hit the court was on Nov. 17, 2021. The team played in the GLIAC Postseason against Ferris State.
The Wildcats registered 36 kills on the evening, led by Stark with 13. Crowley, Stark, and Caylie Barlage combined for the Wildcats’ three aces in the contest, while Barlage led the team in digs. The Wildcats picked up 7.0 blocks as Meghan Meyer had a solo block and four block assists for a team-best.
The team fell to Ferris State 0-3 in their season finale.
NMU VS Central Michigan
NMU Volleyball has faced CMU nine times in the past. Their last matchup was in 1982 when the teams played in the Central Michigan Open.
