The Marquette County Prosecutor’s office says that a local man has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct and weapons charges.
The prosecutor says that 42-year-old 0Jason Thomas Leist of Marquette was convicted after a two-day jury trial of the following crimes:
Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree each of which carries a maximum penalty of Life in prison.
One Count of Weapons – Firearms – Discharge in or at a Building which carries a maximum 10-year penalty.
Two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon each of which carries a maximum 4-year penalty.
Two Counts of Weapons – Felony Firearm each of which carries a consecutive 2-year penalty to the corresponding underlying convictions.
In total Leist was convicted of seven felonies. Sentencing will be scheduled in the 25th Circuit Court in approximately six weeks.
Marquette County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jenna Nelson prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan. The case was investigated by Detective Jason Hart and Deputy Jesse Fergin of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
