A house fire in the City of Marquette has claimed the life of one person.
The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to 511 West Magnetic Street Friday at about 5:00 in the afternoon after a call about a possible chimney fire.
When fire crews got there, the fire had grown into a structure fire, with flames being reported on the first floor of that two-story home. A three-man crew made entry with a 1.75” attack line and needed only 15 minutes to attack the main portion of the fire, and one person was found dead inside the home.
One crews then went into the second story and attic areas to look for more people, but there was nobody else inside. The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the name of the person who died is not being released pending the notification of next of kin.
The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, UPHS Unit 141, Marquette City Public Works, Marquette Board of Light and Power and Semco Gas.
