The Boyne City Police responded to 911 calls of homemade tire spikes placed all over the parking spaces in front of the Charlevoix County Republicans Headquarters during the night before Saturday November 5th.
A volunteer stepped on one of these dangerous spikes and immediately alerted others who had recently parked their vehicles in the parking spots, of which one was found in the tire of the vehicle driven by the Secretary of the Executive Committee.
The spikes were made from flattened beer bottle caps, with three roofing nails pressed through, and painted in black to blend in with the blacktop.
“Whoever attacked our Republican headquarters clearly had intent to commit bodily harm. Our Secretary has a small child and could have gotten into an accident in the vehicle which was damaged by a spike. Our board member could have sustained a foot injury. The police officer who came to the scene could have driven over one and gotten into an accident. Thank God no one was hurt. This is not how Americans fight over the issues. We debate. We vote. We do not physically attack others when we disagree. We condemn this horrible act of violence against our organization, and the families who live in the apartments above our office.”
There is a $2,000 reward for info that leads to the arrest and conviction for this heinous crime. Please contact Officer Dan Mercer of the Boyne City Police with information.
The weekend attack on the Charlevoix County Republicans Headquarters is condemned by the Michigan Conservative Coalition.
“It is beyond time to hold accountable those actually being violent around our elections,” said Rosanne Ponkowski, President of the MCC. “These criminals need to be arrested, charged, convicted and then sentenced to the maximum allowed by Michigan law. We await a response from Michigan’s current Attorney General, who we would like to think will join us in condemning these actions.”
