The Marquette County Clerk’s office has posted the unofficial local election results.
Democratic candidates all won their statewide races in the county, although Republican Congressman Jack Bergman lost by just 3,500 votes to Marquette Democratic candidate Dr. Bob Lorinser. Even closer was the state senate race, which Republican Ed McBroom lost by only 420 votes to Democrat John Braamse. Both Republican incumbents ended up winning those seats.
Jenn Hill won the county by 5,031 votes over Republican Melody Wagner in her 109th state house race, and that carried her to the victory after Wagner had the lead in other counties in the newly-redrawn 109th (Dickinson County, for example).
Locally, two people were elected to the Ishpeming City Council, Margaret Brumm edged Tim Strom for a seat on the Marquette Board of Light and Power, and two people were elected to the Negaunee City Council.
A three-person race for two seats on the Gwinn Area Community Schools Board of Education saw all three candidates get at least 1,400 of the 5,000 votes cast. Ashley Jenema and John Waldo won those seats. The biggest battle was for the two seats on the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education, with seven people running. Cheryl Maddox-Smith and Jason Zdunek won the seats.
Five people also were in the running for three seats on the Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education, with Amy Clickner, Martin Saari, and Faye Collins winning those seats. There were also six people running for three seats in the NICE Community School District for the Board of Education there, and Chad Korpi, Crystal LaFreniere, and John Grove were all elected.
The Ishpeming Township Police millage, Marquette Township Library millage, Powell Township garbage pick-up millage, and the Republic Township Dam renewal millage all passed. The Republic Township fire protection millage proposal failed by six votes, 286-280, but the Republic Township road millage passed.
