No, nobody has stolen the Phil Niemisto statue in downtown Marquette.
TheMarquette Downtown Develiopment Authority says the statue, located at the Phil Niemisto Pocket Park on the 100 block of W. Washington St., is being removed for the winter for repairs, and will be returning in the spring. Artist Earl Senchuk will be completing these repairs.
The statue was the victim of vandalism back in August,a s well as at other times in the past.
Niemisto was beloved by many in Marquette, and was once described as the self-appointed maintenance man for downtown Marquette, died in 2018 at the age of 88.
