U.S. fighter jets are assisting Canadian forces in finding an unidentified object somewhere over northern Lake Huron.
Airspace in a large section of the region has been shut down, and American surveillance planes have been dispatched to the scene, along with aircraft that can refuel fighter jets already on patrol.
Upper Peninsula Congressman Jack Bergman says that the “object” has been shot down.
“I’ve been in contact with DOD regarding operations across the Great Lakes region today. The US military has decommissioned another “object” over Lake Huron. I appreciate the decisive action by our fighter pilots. The American people deserve far more answers than we have,” Bergman tweeted.
Earlier Sunday, the U.S. and Canada scrambled the fighters to a section of Lake Michigan between Northern Wisconsin and northern lower Michigan. After an intensive search of the region nothing was located.
