The Upper Peninsula Construction Council is holding a hiring event and career fair April 17 and 18 in Sault Ste Marie.
The hiring event will take place on Monday from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Sault Ste Marie Armory, located at 1170 E Portage Avenue, Sault Ste Marie. It’s open to those 18 or older with a valid driver’s license and high school diploma or GED. Those interested should bring a resume or portfolio and will have the opportunity to meet with multiple building trades contractors and their respective unions.
The career fair, open to high school seniors, will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., also at the Sault Ste Marie Armory. Students will have the opportunity to speak with UPCC and building trades officials, as well as operatate simulators and hand tools.
“If you’re thinking about a career in construction, you won’t want to miss these events,” said UPCC Executive Director Mike Smith. “With so much construction happening in the U.P. over the next decade, now is the time to start a lucrative career with great wages, family healthcare and a pension.”
Both events are open to the media. Those interested in covering can contact Jen Eyer, jeneyer@gmail.com or 734-846-1566.
