The jazz group Mardi Rouge will play the second Escanaba Beat street concert Tuesday in downtown Escanaba. They will be setting up on the sidewalk in front of the Garceau Insurance Agency at 9th and Ludington Streets.
The band will be playing the funk jazz song “Escanaba Beat” by Sonny Stitt that the event is named for. The group consists of Phil Lynch on piano, John Beck on guitar, Lorne Watson on percussion and Patrick Booth on saxophone.
Participants are asked to visit the neighboring businesses while enjoying the music. A promotion with the Daily Press will focus on one of the businesses.
“The outdoor event is a great way to become reacquainted with that part of town while enjoying a wonderful night of music,” said Craig Woerpel with the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority.
The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. with a special shopping event at 7 p.m.
