Lowe’s has announced that The Salvation Army of Marquette County is one of 100 community projects to be completed this year as part of Lowe’s Hometowns, the company’s largest-ever community impact program.
Launched in 2022, Lowe’s Hometowns is a five-year, $100 million commitment from Lowe’s to rebuild and revitalize community spaces nationwide.
This project will renovate The Salvation Army Ishpeming Community Center building, including upgrades to the gym, dining facilities, food pantry, recreation areas, and kitchen.
“This grant is a pivotal piece of our new program expansions in Ishpeming. We want this to be a fun place to be for teens in this area in the west end and the entire county. We would not be able to provide the type of services we want to offer without the clear partnership and investment by Lowes to make this happen. Our goal is to make a positive impact on the lives of these teens. This grant, along with internal Salvation Army grants we have received will provide over $340,000 for facility improvements and program start-up costs,” stated Captain Doug Winters, U.P. Regional Coordinator.
The project will begin immediately and will be completed by the end of 2023.
“We are grateful to the Lowe’s corporation for their generous gift into this amazing community,” added Captain Kaylie Darrow Marquette County.
This year’s Lowe’s Hometowns projects were selected from 94 communities across 41 states and Washington, D.C., and will address needs specific to each community, from housing and community centers to outdoor spaces and facilities for first responders and veterans. Each project will receive a grant from Lowe’s to make physical improvements that help local organizations continue to make meaningful impact in their communities. At the core of this commitment are Lowe’s red vest associates, who share a passion for giving back to their communities and provide support to every Lowe’s Hometowns project.
Now in the second year of the initiative, Lowe’s Hometowns invites nonprofits and community members to share stories of projects in need. Lowe’s is partnering with, The Salvation Army of Marquette County, local Lowe’s associates, construction pros, and impact partner Points of Light to complete this project.
