The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus is coming to the U.P. State Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, July 8-9.
There will be a total of four shows—two each day at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Each show lasts about 90 minutes. This authentic one-ring, Big Top Circus has been featured on the A&E Special, “Under the Big Top,” “Nick News: On the Road with Kids” and most recently, OETA’s Big Top Town.
The circus will also perform in Munising on Friday evening with shows at 5:00 and 7:30. They will set up at the corner of M-28 and Cherry Street.
After leaving Escanaba, the circus will have two shows next Monday in Niagara, behind City Hall, also at 5:00 and 7:30.
This year’s circus will feature Big Cats presented by Trey Key, the Aerialist Extraordinaire Simone on the trapeze, 10th generation Loyal Bareback Horse Riders, the Perez Daredevil Duo on the Tight Rope and Wheel of Destiny, Elizabeth Ayala’s foot juggling and hair hang and the famous Circus Clown Leo Acton.
Everyone in the community is also invited to watch the Big Top raise on Saturday, July 8 at 9:30 a.m. This will give everyone in the community a chance to tour the grounds and get a behind-the-scenes look at the show. Community members can also learn about life on the road and the care the animals receive.
Also on Saturday, July 8, the midway will be open at 1 p.m. for pony rides, moon bounce, a giant slide, face painting, concession stand, and the box office will be open.
Tickets are available at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the C & M Circus. The Chamber is located at 1001 N. Lincoln Rd., Escanaba. For more information, please visit cmcircus.com, search Culpepper & Merriweather Circus on Facebook, or call (906) 786-2192.
