CLICK TO HEAR JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH PATRICK O’BRIEN, BOY SCOUTS
You’ve heard of the Girl Scouts and their very popular cookie sales as a major fundraiser.
But what about the boys?
Well, they sell popcorn, and lots of it. And here in the Upper Peninsula, the kids will start selling several varities of popcorn this Saturday, as the shipments are scheduled to arrive in Marquette on Friday to get the ball rolling.
Patrick O’Brien with the Hiawathaland Boy Scouts Council tells RRN News that this next few weeks will be the biggest fundraiser of the year for our local boys, bringing in about 70-percent of the money that is used throughout the year.
“It helps the different Scout units as they plan their programs,” O’Brien said. “The scouts themselves get another percentage to help fund their local packs and troops. It kind of helps them to pay their own way. They figure out how much each scout has to sell to pay for their registration fees vfor the year. They figure out how much they have to sell for their summer camp for the year. So, a lot of the scouts are sellimg (popcorn) so they have less out-of-pocket costs to be in our awesome program.”
Scouts will be selling popcorn at various times over the next few weeks s at:
Super One Foods in Marquette and Negaunee
Wal-Mart in Marquette
Lowe’s in Marquette
Tadych’s Marketplace in Marquette
Holiday in Harvey
Pat’s Foods in Gladstone
Elmer’s County Maket in Escanaba
Snyder Drug locations around the U.P.
O’Brien says the kids will be selling popcorn on most weekends through October 22nd, and some may be going door-to-door as well.
“Our local units sell delicious Pecatonica River Popcorn. We want to thank U.S. Special Delivery for all their help in transporting our popcorn to six locations in the Upper Peninsula each fall. We do have an online popcorn order system with some different offerings than at our booth sales or take orders from our scouts.”
