The Marquette County Health Department says that cases of this latest COVID-19 subvariant have been rising across Michigan, and locally, they have detected an “elevated level” of the virus in the City of Marquette wastewater system.
The health department says that means that COVID-19 may be spreading throughout the community.
This comes from on-going research being done by Northern Michigan University, which has been tracking the genetic markers of the virus in municipal wastewater systems since 2021. The health department suggests people stay current on their COVID vaccinations, as well as to take other basic pfrecautions.
