Branden Daniel Klyk, 34, of Trenary, Michigan, was sentenced Thursday morning to prison with the Michigan Department of Corrections.
On July 14, 2023, after a four-day jury trial, Klyk was found guilty of Torture, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, Unlawful Imprisonment, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison, two counts of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder by Strangulation, felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and Domestic Violence – Third Offense, a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
Klyk was sentenced on Thursday, in the 25th Circuit Court by visiting Judge Charles W. Johnson of Emmet County.
Klyk was sentenced to 22-40 years in prison for Torture, 22-40 years in prison for Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree, 10-15 years in prison for Unlawful Imprisonment, 6-10 years in prison on each count of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder by Strangulation, and 3-5 years in prison for Domestic Violence – Third Offense.
Klyk’s sentences will run concurrently with each other, and he will not be eligible for parole until he has served the minimum sentence of 22 years.
Klyk is also required to register as a sex offender on Michigan’s public registry and will be subject to electronic monitoring for the rest of his life.
Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wiese and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Hailey Kimball-Dexter prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.
This case was investigated by the Forsyth Township Police Department, including Officer Cassie Smith, Detective Justin Wonch, and Chief Brian Kjellin.
