Escanaba’s OSF St. Francis Hospital will hold a special “Blessing of Animals” event Sunday afternoon. The hospital chaplain, Father Robb Jurkovich, will preside over the ceremony, which coincides with the special Feast Day for the hospital’s namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, who was well-known for his love of animals.
“The Feast of St. Francis is later in the week, so, in celebration of that, our hospital will be out and blessing all of the animals that come through,” Hospital spokesman Joanna Wilbee-Amis told RRN News. “If they’re furry, feathered…it’s a common practice with the timing of the Feast of St. Francis. We are fortunate to have a lot of wildlife here on our campus that our Mission Partners and patients always appreciate.”
The blessing will happen Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 2:30, in the field area just past the Chaplain’s home, located across from the Serenity Garden. Participants are asked to park in the hospital visitor parking lot and walk to the area.
There are some limited parking spots across from the garden that are reserved for those with accessibility challenges. One other thing: bring your pet on a leash, or in a carrier.
