The Mackinac County Wellness Coalition (MCWC) is hosting its first Senior Health Expo, Thursday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace.
“We are encouraging seniors and caregivers across Mackinac County to take part in our event,” said Mike Grisdale, Marketing Director for Mackinac Straits Health System. “Our committee is excited to have a great lineup of vendors and health agencies ready to share information and answer questions.”
“Thanks to our sponsors and partners, our coalition is able to offer an opportunity for many organizations to share health information with local residents in one location,” added Grisdale. “Flu vaccines will be available, along with free blood pressure checks, free lunch and several prizes.”
Organizations participating include Mackinac Straits Health System, City of St. Ignace Recreation Department, St. Ignace Public Library, LMAS Health Department & Environmental Health, Sault Tribal Health, Community Action Agency, St. Ignace Food Pantry, Straits Area Senior Living Community, MSU Extension, St. Ignace Area Hope, United Way of EUP, Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, St. Ignace Area Hope, Straits Area EMS, and Mackinac County Sheriff Department.
Brief presentations will include “Living Well with Heart Disease”, “Basics of Dementia”, “Fall Prevention”, “Healthy Holiday Eating”, a fitness demonstration along with a tour of the Little Bear Facility, and an introduction into Pilates.
