Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP), a managed care and provider service organization based in Marquette, says it will sponsor the Artists in Excellence (AIE) program. That program collaborates with Negaunee, Marquette, Gwinn, NorthStar Academy, and Ishpeming High Schools to provide unique arts-based extracurricular experiences to upperclassmen who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to their artistic studies.
Administered by the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture in partnership with local art teachers, AIE aims to achieve several important objectives:
- Develop positive relationships with students across districts.
- Foster leadership and self-confidence.
- Explore the cultural offerings of Marquette County through experiences in their communities.
- Encourage students to discover creative careers and their personal potential in the arts.
- Identify and lead a community art project.
- Install the City’s Annual High School Art Show this spring.
- Advocate for their school’s arts program and AIE.
Students participating in the AIE program will have the opportunity to meet three times per month for field trips and interactive experiences that go beyond traditional classroom boundaries. They will interact with local individuals and organizations, gaining insights into creative careers available locally in arts education, business, marketing, design, public art, placemaking, tech arts, and more. They will also lead a community art project.
