A family of six is homeless after a fire Christmas Day near Rudyard.
The chimney fire broke out about two Christmas afternoon on Johnson Road. Homeowner Jeremy Tell and fiancé Kayle Price got their four children safely out of the house, and the dogs got out OK, too. Tell was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after he tried to extinguish the fire.
The Chippewa County Sheriff says that tthe cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The sheriff posted the following:
BIG THANK YOU. I would like to personally thank all of our Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office VSU advocates who responded today. It takes special people to give up their time and volunteer to help those in need, especially on Christmas. Our VSU (Victim Services Unit) was called out to assist a family of 6 who lost their house to a fire. God Bless you all.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the family. The goal is $35,000, and as of early Friday morning, the page showed that $11,375 had beem raised.

“While Kayla, Jeremy, their children, and the dogs are physically safe, they are now facing the immense emotional and financial challenge of rebuilding their lives from scratch, which is an overwhelming financial burden. In the immediate term, Kayla, Jeremy, and their children are displaced, staying with Dennis and I, along with my grandparents, as we work together to support them through this difficult time. They will need help with everything from temporary housing to clothing, food, and replacing essential household items.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help Kayla, Jeremy, and their children cover immediate expenses, such as:
Temporary housing for Kayla, Jeremy, and the children.
Clothing, shoes, and everyday essentials
Food and groceries.
Replacing furniture and basic household items.
The goal for this campaign is $35,000 to provide emergency support while Kayla, Jeremy, and the children begin the long journey of rebuilding their home and their lives.
While the full cost of rebuilding the home is more than what they can afford, this campaign will help cover the immediate needs as we work toward more long-term recovery efforts. We will continue to seek other avenues of support, including insurance claims, grants, and community help, but this money will be a lifeline for Kayla and her family in their time of greatest need.”
