The weekend of May 30th and 31st, 2025, will be a memorable weekend for the Krusin Klassics Car Club of Delta County as the group will host the Fun Run Car Show for a 40th straight year. But it was announced at a Tuesday news conference that this show will be the last one for the group, which was founded in 1985 by a group of car enthusiasts.
“As a group, we’re all getting a little older, and our lives are changing,” Club President Mark Caswell said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference. “This is an exhaustive event, both physically and mentally. Although we’ll be breaking up as the car show itself, the members plan to remain together as a club to attend other events and to continue supporting various auto events.”
The Krusin Klassics normally hosts 400 to 600 cars at the show every year, along with the parade the night before. One year, the show peaked with some 800 cars registered.
After this year, the show itself will live on, with a few changes, as the Krusin Klassics are supporting the transfer of the show to the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority with a new name: The Ludington Street Cruise.
Not only will the parade remain in downtown Escanaba, but the show itself will be moved downtown, with Ludington Street lined with classic cars and displays.
“Our goal is not to duplicate what Krusin Klassics has done over the years,” Escanaba DDA Director Craig Woerpel said. “That’s not possible to do. The impact that they’ve had on this community has been immense. Our goal is to continue something like that, so that the community can continue to benefit from a car show.”
“The one thing we don’t want to lose is something that draws all of our community to come down, spend time with one another, and enjoy the establishments that we have, and enjoy each other’s company,” Escanaba Mayor Mark Ammel said. “Our downtown is perfect for parades. It’s important for us to gather in the spaces that we have here, and keeping a parade of any sort is fabulous because we already know it’s a great draw.”
In the meantime, the Krusin Klassics are getting ready for their final show, and are excited to go out with a bang.
“The entire event will be bittersweet for all of us who have been coming to the show for many years and those who have been involved in it since Day One,” Caswell said. “It’s been a huge event for the community.”
Over the years, the Krusin Klassics have raffled off classic cars and prizes donated by local businesses. The club in turn gives back thousands of dollars, sponsoring scholarships at Bay College in automotive tech for many years, as well as supporting the Walk For Warmth, Escanaba Little League, Salvation Army, Escanaba and Gladstone Robotics, St Vincent De Paul and donating to various families in need.
“We’re encouraging the community to give the Escanaba DDA the same support they’ve given us over all these years,” Caswell said.
