The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle. head-on crash on M-553 near Airport Road Sunday night at about 9:40 p.m.
The driver of a northbound vehicle, a 72-year-old woman from Marquette, collided with a soutbound vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old woman from Gwinn. A witness told police that the northbound vehicle was driving over the centerline, resulting in an off-set head-on collision with the Fiesta.
Both drivers were conscious, but entrapped, and had to be removed by emergency personnel. They were transported to UPHS-Marquette’s ER for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. Deputies were assisted by UPHS EMS, Sands Township EMS, Rescue 131, the Michigan State Police and Forsyth Township Police Department.
