The Community Foundation of Marquette County (CFMC), including five affiliate funds for Negaunee, Big Bay, Greater Ishpeming, Marquette, and the Gwinn Area, is proud to announce the successful distribution of $147,258 in grant funding through its annual competitive grant cycle. The CFMC has awarded $17.2 million in grants benefiting communities across Marquette County since it was founded in 1988.
These grant distributions provide essential funding that allow nonprofit organizations to pursue their missions, while addressing community needs. After a thoughtful and thorough review process, the selection committees carefully considered each proposal for its potential to make a meaningful difference, its alignment with our shared values, and its ability to address real challenges facing each community across Marquette County.
Zosia Eppensteiner, CEO of the CFMC shared that, “These grants reflect the generosity of our donors and the incredible work being done by nonprofits on the ground. We’re honored to help bridge the gap between those who want to give and those creating lasting impact in our = communities.”
This year’s Community Impact Grant Cycle supports programs that benefit people of all ages – from education, health, and food security; to the arts, emergency services, the environment, history, and recreation.

The Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited – Salmon in the Classroom (SIC) program is one of this year’s grant recipients. SIC empowers young people to understand and appreciate their important role in caring for the environment.
Through hands-on activities focused on Chinook Salmon, students raise and release salmon fingerlings, building a strong connection to environmental conservation and the life cycle of this keystone species. Through this hands-on learning, students learn to care for the environment, understand its importance, and stay dedicated to protecting it. Schools with the Salmon in the Classroom program in Marquette County include Powell Township Schools (Big Bay), Negaunee Middle School, North Star Academy (Marquette), Marquette Alternative High School, Cherry Creek Elementary (Marquette), and Gwinn Middle School.
