The Michigan State Police (MSP) Wakefield Post is teaming up with the Gogebic-Iron County Airport to offer a free Teen Defensive Driving Course on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This hands-on program is open to teens and provides direct instruction from MSP troopers in a fun, safe, and controlled setting. The course focuses on building essential defensive driving skills, boosting driver confidence, and teaching young drivers how to anticipate and react to potential hazards on the road, reducing the risk of crashes.
“This course is about more than just learning to drive,” said Trooper Joe Renaud of the MSP Wakefield Post. “It’s about giving teens some tools and takeaways that can help them stay safe when they get behind the wheel. And yes, they’ll get to drive a patrol car, it’s an experience they won’t forget.”

Date: Saturday, June 28, 2025
Time: Two sessions- 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Gogebic-Iron County Airport, E5560 Airport Rd, Ironwood, MI 49938
Cost: Free
Eligibility: Open to teen drivers who hold at least a Level 1 Graduated Driver License
Activities Include: Emergency braking, hazard avoidance, vehicle handling, and patrol car driving
