Community Members in Marquette County are invited to join Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions (UPHCS) and Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) for the annual Marquette County Community Resource Fair, taking place Thursday, June 26, in Marquette.
This year’s event will take place at the Lakeview Arena, located at 401 E Fair Ave, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
Free and open to the public, the fair will connect residents with resources from local organizations that are available to assist and support their day-to-day health and social needs. Over 70 Marquette community-based organizations will be present at the resource fair providing household items and resources related to family and child health care, food, housing, utility, transportation, veterans, and much more!
A community lunch will be offered beginning from 2:00 – 5:00 PM to the first 500 individuals sponsored in partnership with the Salvation Army. There will be giveaways and raffle prizes including gift cards and large family fun baskets. Over 200 backpacks will be provided to children and adolescents in attendance until supplies last! Attendees will be able to receive free dental and vision screenings, blood pressure checks, haircuts, and other services on site.
Two educational food seminars will be held during the fair.
Starting with “Using Spring Farmer’s Market Finds” hosted by Michigan State University Extension at 2:30 PM, followed by “Cooking for Flavor & Health: A Beginner’s Guide to Herbs & Spices” hosted by the Marquette Food Co-Op at 3:45 PM. Both seminars will be held in the Palestra Room of the Lakeview Arena.
The Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office will also be available to attendees of the fair. You can gain access to SOS services including first time IDs, renewing IDs or driver’s licenses, transferring titles, applying for or renewing disability placards, and more! Please remember to bring your necessary paperwork and documentation. No appointment is necessary to utilize these services during the event.
There will also be a Feeding America of West Michigan mobile food pantry located across the street at the Berry Events Center from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM this year. It is encouraged to check out both events!
“We are thrilled to host the Marquette County Community Resource Fair again this year and so happy to bring back the community lunch” says UPHCS Executive Director, Melissa Holmquist. “Ensuring people have access to resources to improve their day-to-day lives plays an important role in UPHCS’s vision of creating a healthy Upper Peninsula with people living their best lives. It is exciting to see our health systems, health plans, and community-based organizations working together to tackle issues such as housing, education, and access to nutritious food so we can create healthier communities and reduce health disparities.”
