A 19-year-old Dickinson County man is in jail after he allegedly tried to firebomb the Dickinson County Republican Committee Headquarters building over the weekend.
Iron Mountain Police say Zayn Arcand tried to light two bottles containing flammable liquids, but the rag wouldn’t catch fire, according to security footage…so he allegedly threw the bottle at the building. Police say he admitted to the crime, saying that he wanted to send a message against corruption.
Arcand was arraigned Monday and charged with possession of Molotov cocktails and attempted arson.
Now, Upper Peninsula State Senator Ed McBroom is a member of that committee. He says the country has a tradition of handling politicial differences peacefully.
Dickinson County Democratic Party Chairman Mari Negro issued a statement saying that the Democratic Party does not condone or support violence in any form. She added that she’s thankful that property damage was kept to a minimum, and that nobody was hurt in the incident.
