The Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post is joining with local first responder agencies and the Marquette Kart Club for a unique community event that combines charitable giving with a bit of friendly competition between local police and fire personnel.
The “Battle of the Badges” Food Drive and Go-Kart Race will take place in Marquette County this week. In support of this effort, community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to the local police or fire department of their choice Monday, August 4th through Thursday, August 7th.
Each participating agency will collect non-perishable food donations and compete to see who can gather the most donations by weight. The agency with the largest total at the end of the collection period will earn the first pick of a go-kart for the race. The go-kart race will take place at the Marquette County Fairgrounds on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The race will feature local police versus local fire personnel racing in a lighthearted battle for bragging rights. The Maquette County Fairgrounds are located at 715 M-553, Gwinn MI 49841.
From Monday, August 4th through Thursday, August 7th, members of the public are invited to drop off non-perishable food donations at the MSP Negaunee Post. The MSP Negaunee Post will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Other drop-off locations include the Marquette City Police Department, Northern Michigan University Police Department, Chocolay Township Police Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Marquette Township Fire Department, and the Marquette City Fire Department. Donations will also be accepted at Super One Foods and Tadych’s Marketplace Foods in Marquette.
