The Forsyth Township Police issued a press release on Monday, announcing the drowning of a teenaged boy.
The incident happened last Wednesday afternoon on Mehl Lake. Officers say a group of teenage boys were swimming from the shore to a floating raft located fifty to sixty yards out. The boy became distressed and went underwater for several minutes.
The boy’s friends pulled him out of the water and tried lifesaving actions, and the Forsyth Township Fire & EMS also arrived and tried to save his life. Those efforts were not successful.
The identity of the teen is widely known in the Gwinn community, and an obituary has been published. However, police have not released his name,
“On behalf of the Forsyth Township Police & Emergency Services team, I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time,” Forsyth Township Chief of Police Brian Kjellin said in a statement. “We stand alongside them and the community as we navigate this tremendous loss.”
