A Copper Country man was arrested on Tuesday in Mackinaw City after not paying toll at the Mackinac Bridge and then leading on a high-speed chase. The suspect…a 21-year-old man from the Calumet area…skipped his toll at just before 2 Tuesday morning.
An officer tried to stop him on I-75 but the suspect took off onto Exit 338, and then down US-23, and through a construction zone.
A few miles later, the suspect stepped on the gas when officers ordered him to cut the engine….going speeds as high as 110 miles per hour…and he hit the front of the police car. Eventually, the man pulled over on US-23 and left the vehicle. He was taken to the Cheboygan County Jail and is charged with several felonies. His name was not released.
No one was injured in the incident.
The suspect has been charged with the following:
- Third-degree fleeing and eluding
- Reckless driving
- Damage to a police vehicle
- Failure to pay toll
- Speeding
