Downtown Escanaba House, Apartment Building Damaged By Fire

A home and apartment complex were damaged by fire Monday afternoon in downtown Escanaba.

Public Safety says the call came in at around 2:30 to come to 803 1^st Avenue North with flames shooting from the roof of that two-story building. Public Safety helped residents get out of the adjacent apartment complex because it, too, started to catch fire.

In the end, firefighters from Escanaba and Ford River Township put out the flames and damage was kept to a minimum for the apartment building. No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
