Some 60 Michigan State University faculty and administrators are coming to the Upper Peninsula as part of the Spartan Bus Tour, a trip that focuses on community impact and connections throughout the state. Michigan State President Kevin Guskiewicz will be among those visiting the U.P.
One of the visits will be at the MSU Forestry Innovation Center in Escanaba, which shares new forestry ideas and projects between the university and local partners. That will be Monday morning.
The MSU Forestry Innovation Center has a long history of studying forests and finding ways to use Michigan’s wood resources in smarter, more sustainable ways.
Their past work helped increase production, cut costs, reduce pollution, protect rural jobs, and make forest product supply chains more efficient. Researchers have also studied tree genetics, how forests grow, and how to manage wetlands with trees.
The Spartan Bus Tour will be stopping through 15 communities in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michigan to learn more about these unique parts of the state where many of our students and alumni call home.
Other stops will include the MSU Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center in the Alger County town of Chatham, the MSU College of Human Medicine’s U.P. Campus in Marquette, as well as other sites across the region.
