The Mackinac Horsemen’s Association is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $11,400 Winter Boarding Grant from the Mackinac Island Community Foundation. This generous funding was made possible through the Straus Memorial Fund, the Preservation of the Horse Tradition on Mackinac Island Fund, and the Bell Fund for the Community.
These funds directly support MHA’s mission: to promote, educate, and ensure the future of horses and horsemanship on Mackinac Island and throughout Michigan.
The grant will help offset the costs of winter boarding and training for MHA’s horses. Maintaining year-round conditioning is essential, and this funding ensures that the horses will be housed at a downstate training facility where they will receive:
- Ongoing training and exercise programs
- Regular veterinary and farrier care
- Participation in local horse shows
“We are deeply grateful to the Mackinac Island Community Foundation for their continued support,” said Julie Raisch, Executive Director. “Without their generosity, we simply could not offer the extensive programming that benefits our community. Horses are a vital part of Mackinac Island’s heritage, and this grant allows us to continue our mission through the winter as we work toward our long-term goal of establishing a year-round facility on the island.”
