One firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a house fire in Oconto Sunday afternoon.
Oconto Fire and Rescue says crews were dispatched just after 2:14 p.m. to the 500 block of Washington Street for a reported structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a one-story wood-frame home with heavy flames and smoke coming from the south side of the building.
All occupants had safely made it out before crews arrived. Because of the home’s construction and challenging weather conditions, additional departments from surrounding communities were called in to help. Firefighters entered the home, knocked down the bulk of the fire, and then pulled ceilings to reach and extinguish remaining hot spots. Officials say no residents were injured. One firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
