A two-million-dollar cash bond has been set for the man charged in the homicide case tied to the death of 24-year-old Gabriella Cartagena. Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Chilcote made his initial appearance by Zoom from the Marinette County Jail, facing one count of First-Degree Intentional Homicide. During the hearing, prosecutors argued the seriousness of the charge and the circumstances surrounding the case warranted a high cash bail.
Prosecutors told the court Chilcote is accused of causing the victim’s death by a gunshot to the head, then allegedly moving the body into Menominee County and fleeing the area. Authorities say he was later arrested in Minnesota after a high-speed chase that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour, with weapons found in the vehicle. The judge noted the gravity of the charge and concerns about public safety and flight risk when making the bond decision.
The court ultimately granted the state’s request, setting bail at two million dollars cash and ordering strict conditions, including no contact with the victim’s family, no weapons, and no use of alcohol or controlled substances without a prescription.
An adjourned initial appearance in the case has been scheduled for March 5th at 8:30 in the morning, with family members allowed to attend in person or by Zoom as proceedings continue.
