DO NOT TRAVEL.
That was the main message from Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt during a virtual press conference this afternoon in Negaunee Township. He says people are getting stuck on the roadways and it is hampering efforts to plow the roads and to restore power.
Zyburt says that tow trucks may not be able to reach you if you do decide to travel.
Zyburt says that as of noon, Marquette County has 2,400 customers without power. He says that the restoration effort will be difficult and challenging because high winds and heavy snowfall continue throughout the county this afternoon.
Emergency warming shelters are on standby, but are not open yet because it’s impossible to travel right now to open them up. He says the earliest a shelter could possibly open would be Tuesday morning. They estimate the earliest that road conditions improve will be Tuesday afternoon. If you need help to get through the storm, call UPCAP at 211.
