The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will be hosting a Veteran healthcare presentation at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in the 5th floor conference center on the main campus in Iron Mountain, Mich. Veterans, their families, and the general public are all invited to attend.
For those who are unable to come in person the townhall will be streamed live on the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center’s Facebook page, and the video post will be available for later viewing.
There will be presentations focused on three specific items:
- VA Video Connect is a new way for Veterans to connect with their providers using video technology from their homes, or another place of their choosing, using smart phones, tablets, laptops, or home computers.
- Benefits that may be afforded to Veterans, and eligible family members due to their connection with water contamination at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. Eligibility for health and/or disability benefits associated with the water contamination may be available for those servicemembers and their families who were stationed at the base between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987.
- The Medical Center will become a smoke-free facility on October 1, 2019. We will move forward with implementation of a new policy restricting smoking by patients, visitors, volunteers, contractors and vendors at our health care facilities. VA providers that specialize in smoking cessation will be available to discuss resources for Veterans to quit smoking. The integration of these two efforts guarantees a fully smoke-free environment for our nation’s Veterans.
These presentations will be followed with an opportunity for those who are present to ask any questions they may have regarding these subjects as well as any other VA services.
“We want to provide our Veterans with important health care information that may be of benefit to them while also getting their input on the care we provide and answering any questions they may have,” said John Jamison, spokesperson for the VA Medical Center.
The VA Medical Center is located at 325 East H Street in Iron Mountain. Any questions can be directed to Tim Ellison, Veteran Experience Officer at 800-215-8262, extension 32593.
