Gerald Charles Alexander, 53, of Escanaba was sentenced to 24 months to 20 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. Alexander was sentenced following the entry of a plea to Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Act, 3rd Offense, as a Third Habitual Offender.
Alexander was also sentenced to 12 months in the Delta County Jail following the entry of a guilty plea to Possession of Analogues (bupenorphine/suboxone).
Alexander’s sentences will begin following the completion of his term of parole.
On June 1, 2019, detectives with Escanaba Department of Public Safety observed that Alexander had not come to Public Safety for his quarterly verification requirements for Sex Offender Registration.
On June 2, 2019, Alexander was arrested for Failure to Comply with the Sex Offender Registration Act by failing to update his address and employment status.
On July 2, 2019, agents from Michigan Department of Corrections, detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement South Team (UPSET), and troopers from Michigan State Police Gladstone Post conducted a search of Alexander’s residence in the city of Escanaba. During the course of the search Suboxone or bupenorphine pills were located. Alexander admitted he did not have a prescription for the pills.
