There were two Marquette City Commission seats available in Tuesday’s general election, with four people on the ballot and two write-in candidates.
Evan Bonsall claimed the first with 2,440 votes.
“It feels incredible,” Bonsall told RRN News. “I’m just happy that all of the people who volunteered for our campaign, who helped spread the word, and who gave us their support at the polls today, and in other ways, I’m just happy that we got a good result for them, and for the people of Marquette.”
The race for the second seat was a little closer. Andrew Lorinser edged out Sally Davis by just 20 votes—1,463 to 1,443.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for everybody who supported me and this community,” Lorinser told RRN News. “This was about the future and identity of Marquette. It was so important that we started a movement that was not only about my candidacy, but about the people behind me, and about the people in front of me who we are pushing to the table.”
In other Marquette area elections, Robert Niemi retained his seat with the Board of Light and Power, and Kevin Flohe will have a seat on the Negaunee City Council.
