Escanaba Department of Public Safety responded to 4921 Karen 17.25 Street in Wells Township at 9:02 a.m. Friday for a structure fire. Dispatched received a report of smoke inside the residence.
No one was at or in the residence at the time of the complaint. EPSD officers entered the front door and heavy snow filled the residence. Officers applied water to where the fire had been. A couch that had been burning was removed from the residence. The residence received heavy smoke and water damage.
A cat perished in the fire and a second cat was not located. A dog was outside the residence upon our arrival and was not harmed. There were no other injuries reported.
