Helen Newberry Joy Hosppital on Saturday suspended all visiting of patients due to the coronavirus.
The hospital is also offering free testing for the virus.
The press release follows:
To protect our patients, staff, visitors and the community during the outbreak of COVID-19, all routine visiting is being suspended until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat to our patients, staff, and community. In addition to not allowing visitors, the HNJH cafeteria dining area and both Wellness Center locations are closed to the public until further notice. Food orders may be placed in the cafeteria by calling 293.9127.
The decision to restrict visitors was difficult and made only after careful consideration of our infection control practices. We recognize that there are times when having a visitor or family member present is crucial. In these cases, visitors will be allowed under certain circumstances. HNJH will work with those families individually at that time.
During clinic visits at the Gibson Family Health Clinic, Manistique Lakes Family Clinic, and West Mackinac Health Clinic, patients may have one person with them. Please note this only applies if the visitor screens negative for symptoms of respiratory infection (fever, runny nose, cough, shortness of breath).
Reminder if you are experiencing the symptoms above please call the COVID-19 Hotline at 906.293.9288 before coming into the healthcare center. We appreciate your understanding during these uncertain times. Our goal is to protect you, your loved one and our staff.
In an ongoing effort to protect patients, the public, and health care workers, Helen Newberry Joy Hospital is activating a free COVID-19 screening hotline.
People experiencing a fever, cough or shortness of breath, or concerned they may have been exposed to the coronavirus, should call our free screening hotline at 906.293.9288 to speak with a nurse who will evaluate their symptoms and determine if further testing or hospitalization is needed.
HNJH strongly encourages anyone experiencing symptoms to call the COVID-19 hotline BEFORE seeking care at the hospital, Gibson Family Health Clinic, and any offsite clinic location including scheduled appointments.
HNJH continues to work closely with federal, state, and local partners. HNJH’s emergency preparedness process is in place, and we are ready to care for potential coronavirus patients.
